I can’t believe it’s time to start planning our daughters 2nd birthday party!  It really feels just like yesterday that I was miserable at the end of my pregnancy, and also miserable inside wondering if she, too, would have food allergies like our son.  She as of now, does not have food allergies, but we keep the food at her birthday party completely free of our sons allergens.  Last July, for our son’s 4th birthday party, one of the snacks we served was homemade dairy-free Chex Mix.  It was a hit and I believe that it was completely gone by the end of the party.  I was shocked!  So, I think we’ll be making it again for our upcoming birthday party.  I realized though, when a reader emailed me to ask for the recipe that I have never shared the recipe.  That’s just not fair, is it?  So here it is.  Finally.

Dairy-Free Chex Mix From Mom Vs. Food Allergy Blog

A word on ingredients.  I use Rice Chex and Corn Chex; they are gluten-free as well.  I use Rold Gold pretzels, and this time I used Earth Balance Vegan Buttery Popcorn and Earth Balance Dairy-Free and Soy-Free Buttery Spread.  Sometimes I use Skinny Pop, but basically whatever I’ve got on hand or is on sale.  If you used gluten-free pretzels like Glutino, this could be a gluten-free snack!  I buy all of my ingredients at Kroger.  I hope you enjoy this easy snack at your next party or movie night at home!  Print the recipe below.  Don’t forget to follow me on Pinterest where I pin other tasty treats like this!

Ingredients
  • 5 cups Corn Chex
  • 5 cups Rice Chex
  • 3 cups pretzels, I used Rold Gold
  • 5 T onion powder
  • 7 tsp parsley flakes
  • 1½ tsp garlic salt
  • ¾ cup dairy-free margarine
  • 2 cups popcorn, I used Earth Balance
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F
  2. Lightly coat large jelly roll pan with cooking spray
  3. Mix corn chex, rice chex, and pretzels in a large mixing bowl or large ziploc bag and set aside
  4. Combine onion powder, parsley flakes, and garlic salt in a small bowl, set aside
  5. Melt butter in a separate bowl in microwave
  6. Add onion powder mixture to cereal & pretzel mixture and mix well
  7. Drizzle with melted margarine, and stir slowly until the mixture is evenly coated. This might take 3-4 minutes, but be patient.
  8. Once evenly coated with butter mixture, transfer to jello roll pan.
  9. Toast in oven for 10 minutes, stirring halfway through
  10. Let cool for 10 minutes before transferring to large serving bowl
  11. Add popcorn right before serving
  12. Store in an airtight container at room temperature
